31. August: ESSE Panel "Cities in Scotland: Cultural Heritage and National Identity"
PD Dr. habil. Nora Pleßke und Dr. Clarisse Godard Desmarest (University of Picardie Jules Verne, France) veranstalten im Rahmen der 15. Konferenz der European Society for the Study of English (ESSE) in Lyon ein Panel mit dem Titel "Cities in Scotland: Cultural Heritage and National Identity" am 31. August 2021. Innerhalb des Panels wird über Schottlands kulturelles Erbe als wichtiges nationales Gut mit einem Fokus auf Städte diskutiert. Anstelle des natürlichen Erbes des Landes, das oft in Analysen der schottischen Vergangenheit bevorzugt wird, soll vor allem das urbane Erbe des Landes betrachtet und der Zusammenhang mit Fragen der nationalen Identität beleuchtet werden. Das Panel über das urbane Erbe Schottlands beinhaltet folgende Beiträge zu Stadtentwicklung, Architektur, Denkmälern, Kunst, öffentlichem Gedächtnis, Tourismus sowie Literatur und Film:
